MT CHARLESTON & SPRING MTS

Griffith Peak Hike
The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (SMNRA) is part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Inside the SMNRA is the Mt Charleston Wilderness Area. Better known to the locals as Mt Charleston, it is located 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas. With 40+ miles of trails & an average temperature 25-30 degrees lower than the Vegas valley, it is a popular get away from the summer heat. In the winter months, the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort offers fun in the snow, making Mt Charleston a popular destination year round.

There are two canyons that go into the Mt Charleston Wilderness Area. Kyle Canyon (Route 157) has lodging, restaurants & a small market. Lee Canyon (Route 156) has the ski resort. Both have campgrounds, picnic areas & hiking trails throughout. They are connected by Deer Creek Highway (Route 157).
